Dr. Rainwater is proud to have been born and raised in the Central Valley of California. Growing up in Visalia and graduating from Redwood High School he went back east for his college education. He returned to California and completed his medical school education at University of Southern California and while a medical student was elected the student body president and sat on the Admissions Committee. He stayed for 5 years at USC to do his urologic training under the guidance of some of the leading urologists in the country.
At that time, USC was considered one of the top five programs in the US. He returned to the Valley in 1984 to practice Urology. While doing his urologic training at USC and practicing in the Valley, Dr. Rainwater has always been on the cutting edge of new innovation. At USC he was involved in the first continent urinary diversion for bladder cancer and he did the first ureteroscopy for stone disease. While living in Fresno he has been involved in doing many of the first innovative prostate cancer tests and treatments. He was the first urologist in the Valley to do nerve sparing radical retropubic prostatectomy for prostate cancer. He brought to the Valley the first prostate ultrasound machine to help diagnose prostate cancer as well as being involved with the first lab that did the prostate specific antigen blood testing for prostate cancer. In the 1990’s he was involved in the first laser prostatectomy in the Valley for benign disease.
In the 2000’s he was the first to be involved in doing brachytherapy and cryotherapy for prostate cancer. He did the first robotic laparoscopic radical prostatectomy in March 2004 at St. Agnes Hospital. He has been the first involved in the new urinary incontinence procedures for both men and woman.
Dr. Rainwater has been involved with male infertility for 25 years, working with Dr. Sueldo who had just finished his female infertility fellowship at USC. Dr. Rainwater has been performing vasectomy reversals and varicocele surgery for over 25 years with great success.
